In 1981 or 82, while finishing up on my architecture degree at U of Oregon, I arranged a special program through the Art Dept whereby I could use the forge facilities after blacksmithing classes were cancelled. A sculpture major (whose art I admired but whose name I've forgotten) told me that they were getting ready to start investing their work the next day for an upcoming pour and handed me a chunk of modeling wax. This is what came of it. As a result I can say the first thing I ever cast was an anvil.
